THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE DRILL RIG. IT ALLOWS THE DRILLING FLUID TO PASS INTO THE DRILLING STEM AND FLUSH OUT THE CUTTINGS. It accepts most power head shafts, 7/8 inch w/ 3/8 pin, and uses 1-inch drill rod. For power heads with a 1 inch shaft I can supply an adapter to fit it for a small additional charge. The water inlet is 3/4" pipe. Weight bearing, it will bear more weight than a 6.5 hp power head gear box will stand. The 1-inch pipe thread that connects to the drill stem is schedule 160 for strength and durability. The housing is a full 3/16 inch thick so it will stand up to sand and stones. Has a 1-1/2 inch hex nut to facilitate adding and removing drill stem. The nut is over 1 inch wide, not a quarter inch or so like some. It is precision machined and uses sealed permanently greased ball bearing so there is maintenance required, not plastic, bronze or rubber bushings, and/or compression tees. Pardon me but over priced compression tees and bushings with o-rings are just not made to last. They wear out quickly and leak like a sieve. The problem with bushings and o-rings is simple. The side weight of the hose connection pulls down on one side. This puts side pressure on the metal on metal shaft and bushing. The metal on metal/plastic rubbing wallows out the bore and then the o-rings do nothing. Bronze will last longer than plastic but nothing lasts like sealed ball bearings. You have no metal on metal/plastic rub. I tried several different swivels and not one of them would last more that a few days. Being a retired machinist I decided to make my own and I made a few extra to sell to recover my costs. I sold all of them so now I have made more. They are not cheap to make but you get what you pay for. Why pay $300 or $400 for a swivel that will only last a few days when you can buy one that will last hundreds of hours and can be re-built if necessary using readily available parts. No plastic/rubber bushings, o-rings or compression tees here. Just precision machined housings and sealed, permanently greased ball bearings built to last!!! I have used one of these swivels for months now and can’t wear it out. Wonder why the guys that are selling drill rigs don't build them this way? MONEY! They can build a swivel using plastic bushings and o-rings for about $25-30 bucks. After they sell you a drill rig for $2,000 they don't mind sending you a $10 re-build kit or two. After that your warranty is gone, they have your money, your feedback and don't know you anymore. They won't sell you a swivel out right after that so then your rig is just a big paper weight. I tried to buy one out right once and was told "We only have so many and have to save them for our customers." I will always be here. I will sell re-build kits for as long as you own my swivels and will re-build them for you if you send it back, you pay postage both ways and parts.
