Description
Product Opportunity Summary   This prospectus will introduce the Transformer Trailer, a newly patented technology available for sale/patent transfer. Designed for use with heavy load transport vehicles, the Transformer Trailer has the unique ability to transform from a flatbed trailer into a multiple-automobile transporter, having a hydraulic-powered retractable upper deck and hydraulic-powered lift arms.  These arms are designed to allow the vehicle to transport wide loads as well as to be loaded from the side of the lower deck. The Transformer Trailer also has a stabilizer system, which minimizes or eliminates lateral movement of the vehicle during operation on the road; a truss assemble that is designed to synchronize the action of the hydraulic-powered lift arms; and a cable pulley system, which assists in the raising of the front end of the upper deck.   Generally, in heavy transport vehicles, the upper deck is vertically movable along support posts that extend from opposite sides of the lower deck. These support posts limit the width of the load, which may be carried when the upper deck is in the lowered position.  Further more, when the load to be carried on the upper deck is mounted on the upper deck and the transport vehicle is in the lowered position, the support posts may limit the width of the load capable of being transported on the upper deck. Additionally, the support posts may make it hard, if not impossible to load the deck from either side of the vehicle.   The ability to carry wider loads is important. Because of the Transformer Trailer’s unique upper deck stabilizer system and the design of its lifting mechanism, the need for support posts is eliminated. This allows for wider loads to be carried upon the upper deck when the upper deck is in lowered position.   With a standard transport trailer, a vertically movable upper deck may be dangerous when heavy loads are mounted upon the raised upper deck. This is because at the high speeds normally reached while driving on the highway, the upper deck on a standard transport trailer may be subject to lateral movement and shaking. This could compromise the vehicles driver’s ability to safely maneuver the vehicle. Also, this instability could possibly damage the vehicle or load being transported.   Transport trailers are generally limited by height restrictions imposed by the federal and state Department of Transportation regulations relating to vehicle height. In the fully retracted position, with the upper deck in the lowered position, the transport vehicle may carry a load upon the deck; however, the total height of the load must be low enough to allow travel under bridges and overpasses and to otherwise comply with federal and state regulations.   The Transformer Trailer easily raises and lowers the upper deck with the lift arms being actuated in a synchronized manner. This is accomplished by the virtue of a truss assembly, comprising a number of braces that run perpendicular to the direction the vehicle is traveling and connects each pair of lift arms at the point where they are connected to the upper deck, and a series of trusses that extend across the vehicle diagonally , connecting the cross braces. The height of the fully retracted upper deck is 42 inches above the surface upon which the vehicle travels.   Transport vehicles that provide only for the hauling of automobiles, for example, may be economically inefficient. When a transporter delivers a load of cars onto the transport vehicle forces the transporter to make the return trip with an empty trailer and one load still to be hauled.   The target market for purchasing the Transformer Trailer is truck owners/operators, fleet truck owners and managers, shippers, private fleets, and other carriers. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, there are nearly 600,000 interstate motor carriers in the U. S., including for-hire (truckload and less-than-truckload), private carriers, owner-operators and government fleets. Most trucking companies are small; about 80 percent have 20 or fewer trucks. The remaining 20 percent operate more than 20 trucks, which is fewer than in previous years.                   Competitive Landscape   Competitive Advantages / Breakthrough Opportunity The economic benefits, safety and speed of operation make the Transformer Trailer superior to competitive products.  No other transport trailer features the unique ability to carry flatbed loads or full-scale vehicle loads.   Product Features and Benefits Two trailers in one, ability to carry flatbed loads or full scale vehicle loads Safety, no need to walk catwalks Easy to load Side-loading capability Improved efficiency Quick return on investment Streamlined design Easy to convert Cost efficient Hauls eight cars Transforms into a 40-inch step deck trailer Air ride suspension Hand held remote control and lead LED lights   Industry Size and Trends The trucking industry continues its increasing domination of U.S. freight transportation modes.  Trucking is expected to control 68 percent of all domestic freight tonnage by 2008 (American Trucking Association, “U.S.  Freight Transportation Forecast to 2014 “).  The market should improve as the decade unfolds, with a prolonged growth forecasted for the industry through 2008.   Freight industry web site ExpeditersOnline.com states that trucking officials are “bracing for an ever-increasing driver shortage, which may occur as the result of the new hours of service rules which, most likely, will necessitate more trucks and drivers on the road to make up for more mandated off-duty time.  In addition, with the economy situation, dissatisfied truck drivers have greater options in other lines of work and may be tempted to leave driving.”                         Product Analysis   Product Specifications The Transformer Trailer is comprised of: Ø  8  Aluminum constructed hydraulic cylinders Ø  Hydraulic 12V self Ø  -contained power unit Ø  2  Air ride axles and suspension – 22,500-pounds with aluminum wheels and tires 17 ½ -inches Ø  26  Track sealed rollers – 12,000-pounds dynamic load Ø  3  sets of 5 aluminum 10-foot ramps Ø  3  4-foot by 8-foot sheets 3/16-inch flat for bracing Ø  40  Ratcheting assemblies with chains Ø  Ladder bars run length of trailer Ø  Stake pockets and rub rails on top deck Ø  LED lights Ø  Various sizes and quantities of steel tubing Ø  Electric winches are optional Ø  Dimensions: ·         Length:  53 feet ·         Height:  10 ½ feet (highest point is 42-inches) ·         Weight: 19,000 pounds ·         Width:   102 inches Patent Information Mr. John Lawson and Mr. Matthew Smith hold United States Utility Patent No. 6,345,943 B1 filed on April 4, 2000, and issued on February 12, 2002. This patent offers solid protection for the Transformer Trailer through the year 2020, commensurate with the filing date. This patent has 15 claims that broadly protect the exclusive design and function of the Transformer Trailer.
