Davenport, a furniture company also located in Boston (both had factories in East Cambridge).  After the merger, the company executed a number of commissions for Gothic Revival churches, including the chapels at Duke University and the University of Pittsburgh.  The company’s last major design commission was for the interiors for the United Nations buildings in New York City, executed in the 1950s.  Irving and Casson-A.H. Davenport went out of business in 1974.   This Irving & Casson/A.H. Davenport partner's desk was built for the U. S. House of Representatives ... appropriately tagged, and measures 48 x 66" Wide ... On both sides are 2 Pull-Out Writing Tablets, 1 Center Drawer, 6 Box Drawers, and 1 File Drawer (with keys and working locking mechanism) ... This desk is in excellent condition for what I assume is 50+ years ... shows signs of use, but not abuse ... the top is inlaid with leather and is in reasonably good condition ...   What you are buying here is a piece of History ... a desk from true American Craftsman, Irving & Casson ... a desk used in the U.
