Description
Offering this vintage, old soft cover booklet entitled "Fourth Edition, The Draughtsman Bungalows, Very Arts & Crafts tradition homes with some modifications. A book on California Bungalows; showing the latest and advanced designs of this particular type of architecture, published in the interest of the laymen home builders, architects, contractors and allied artisans who desire to study the Bungalow in it's latest development. Published and Copyrighted, 1914 by De Luxe Building Co, A.B. Maescher, Manager, E. . Armstrong, Designer, Architectural Designers, 521-523 Union League Building, Los Angeles, California, Publishers of Plan-Kraft Home-Kraft Homes, Publishers of The Draughtsman, Kozy Homes." 64 pages complete. The booklet is in good condition for it's age, does show age wear and some slight wrinkling. The first pages is termed "Bungalow Talk", and says in part, "The Bungalow no doubt has reached its highest development here in California where every man owns his own home, and builds his home as artistic as possible for his financial benefit, as an artistic home will attract a buyer and a pretty home is the pride and ambition of every man. To build a home right nothing gives you a better start than to have a complete and accurate set of plans, setting forth each detail and showing every angle and feature in their correct proportion. About Plans: For the benefit of those who would like to build any of the houses shown in this book, we will furnish you complete working plans, blue prints, and specifications and all necessary details so any carpenter of ordinary intelligence can erect the same. The price of plans are made very nominal, so as to be in the reach of every one. We sell hundreds of plans and therefore do not depend on any individual sale to make our profit, as the original design, of any one house costs us many times the cost printed. We build houses from these same plans that we sell you and they must be right. If you care for more than one set we will furnish you with duplicate sets at $2.50 per set; duplicate sets are needed when you are obtaining a building loan or you wish to put away one set for evidence in case the structure is destroyed by fire, also when you let building to a contractor to build." The following pages have picture of the home and the small scale of the plans. such as page 3 shows the Bungalow No 200, Cost $2,500. (That's the total cost of construction for the dwelling). Each page shows a different designs and plan with the corresponding cost of the structure,(The price of the homes are from $800.00 to $3,400.00 with the average price being about $2,000.00)(are these the $500,000.00 homes being sold now???WHAT AN INVESTMENT). The cost of that plan was $10.00. The last part of the booklet has a pic of the Bungalow Court and says "Bungalow courts are becoming very popular and bid fair to continue so as long as out cities grow and increase in populations. We have illustrated there and four room bungalows built in the form of a court." Outside cover has a tear at bottom lower corner on spine. This is a must have for the architect, builder or design artist. These designs are very very intricate and extremely interesting ( most homes featured are real photos of completed houses and some are just drawings) . A must have book for a Laymen Home Builder, Architect, Contractor, Allied Artisans, Arts and Crafts Home Restorators, Realtor or Historian. Measures 8 5/8" x 6 5/8".   The condition statement is given as a courtesy to a buyer, & is only my opinion.
