Description
This auction is for a 130 foot tall , 46” face width guyed tower formerly used to support large microwave antennas. It was made by the Indiana Steel company under a contract by the federal government. The model number of the tower is RML-3, it is similar in design to a Grasis / Andrew M46 or a Trylon SST. The tower is an all bolted (knockdown) construction, with 10 foot sections. The bolts used for assembly are mostly 5/8” galvanized, the bolts are not included, I can provide you with info on suppliers of bolts of this type. Legs are 5/16” X 6” steel plate formed into a 60 degree angle. The tower has an internal climb ladder, and has a tapered base. The tower originally supported two 8’ X 12’ microwave passive reflectors for a number of years and then was taken down, we completely dismantled the tower, sandblasted and regalvanized all tower parts per ASTM A-123, and reinstalled the tower. It was used as a cell site for about 5 years, and then dismantled and stored until now. Since it was only used for 5 years after galvanizing, it is in very good condition, with plenty of life left in the galvanizing. We have reinstalled two other towers of this type, one to a height of 170 feet, and one to 100 feet, and put several cellular tenants on each one with no problem. If you need more height I have two additional 10’ tower sections available, these parts are currently bare steel and not galvanized. If you want the extra sections I can have those parts hot dip galvanized locally, we will charge as an additional cost exactly the cost of doing this including handling and trucking. I will include all of the original installation and fabrication drawings. The tower base and guy anchor drawings are generic for use in standard soils, you should have a structural engineer review and possibly update these drawings based on the soil conditions where you plan to install the tower. Most of the guy hardware is not included in this auction, so you will need to buy guy wire, turnbuckles, and 3 guy anchors. I will however include 9 heavy duty galvanized shackles and 18 guy thimbles. Also not included are 4 “J” bolts for the tower base. I can recommend several suppliers for these items. The tower is available for pickup only, all sections can be loaded onto one flatbed truck trailer, or into a box truck. All of the tower parts are loose stacked, so they can be loaded onto a truck by hand one at a time. Or, you can rent a boom truck or forklift locally to do the loading. The total weight of the tower steel is around 7,000 lbs. The photos show the tower in storage on the ground in Milwaukee, the bottom left photo shows the tower as originally installed as part of a microwave link, the bottom right photo shows a 170' version of this tower during its usage supporting cellular antennas. Sold strictly as-is.
