Description
A little history about Massey - Harris Pony as they were built from 1947 - 1961 and weighed in at 1890lbs w/ a 4 cylinder, 2-3/8 x 3-1/2" engine They were built and Woodstock Canada and Marquette France For several years, the Pony was the smallest - and most popular - tractor in the Massey - Harris line. A powerful, lightweight machine, during its life-time it met the needs of over 100,000 farmers. Massey-Harris designed the Pony with the small-acreage farmer in mind. The tractor ran on high-compression (6.5 to 1) Continential engine and pulled one plow. To provide the versatility needed for small place, it featured adjustable front - and rear - wheel treads. When first introduced, the little tractor has three forward speeds. Later on, the company added two more speeds. Also, after 1950, the Pony came with Hydraulic lift, dubbed by Massey-Harris the "Depth-o-matic" system. Most models of the Pony also featured a nice extra: Velvet Ride" - a special seat touted to do "for the tractor what the shock absorber did for the automobile" Because of its small size, the Pony scored its greatest sucess in Europe. Whereas North American production of the Pony stopped in 1954 at a total of under 29,000 tractors, the Pony continued to be built in France for most of a decade. European production eventually topped 90,000 units.
