Description
This auction is for two new items for scientific study and research in the laboratory or for field work, especially for oilfield wellsite geology observations: 1) It includes a glazed, ceramic spot plate, about 4 5/8-inches x 3 5/8-inches (118mm x 92mm) in size. It has 12 depressions which can be used for conducting some chemical reactions or other tests. For example, to test for a carbonate rock, add a small amount of hydrochloric acid to the rock in a depression to see if it effervesces. Or a small amount of solvent could be added to get a cut - crude oil streaming out of the rock to evaluate an oil show. It is glazed on the top – the bottom of the plate is not glazed. 2) Also included is a pair of long stainless steel tweezers, about 6 inches (155mm) in length. These have a bent and angled tip, which is also serrated to pick up tiny specimens or samples, such as rock cuttings at a wellsite or other organic or inorganic material. I used tools like these to examine many specimens of rock cuttings at an oil and gas-drilling site. What kind of items can be viewed? All kinds of rocks, especially under magnification, whatever the drill bit drills, like sandstone, shale, coal, anhydrite, salt, fossils, etc. Plus anything else in the wellbore – tiny pieces of drill bit, lost circulation material, pipe dope, crude oil , etc. It could be used by wellsite geologists, mudloggers, toolpushers, drillers, roughnecks - anyone who is interested in what's in the borehole. But these tools can be used for many other scientific or engineering applications as well.
